Yes. We’re absolutely a serious project. Despite the apparently silly concept, we are making beautiful digital art pieces that we hope the community can enjoy in a positive way. Good vibes only.

We love NFTs, digital art, and the blockchain as a medium. We also have a lot of appreciation for all the major-technology drivers in the space, specifically the larger NFT players that are breaking ground on Ethereum. Several of our co-founders are also deeply involved in NFT ecosystems on the Ethereum blockchain but we think Solana represents an interesting opportunity for a few reasons.

First is the opportunity to launch a project early into the Solana NFT ecosystem. The community is growing fast and we see it much like the Ethereum NFT community was a year ago or more. The opportunity on Solana is to build and launch a project founded on the Solana blockchain that makes a marked net improvement to the visual art NFT marketplace there, in both quality and authenticity.

Second is relating to price and fees. At present, launching a large collection directly on L1 Ethereum is expensive and inefficient to a point where it’s unappealing both for creators and for original minters. Launching on Ethereum overall is more expensive, and when it comes to distribution it can require a user to pay 4-5x the original price due to gas and transaction fees. Sometimes up to 10x if the launch is oversubscribed. Effectively, most of this value is transferred towards energy usage costs and paying miners for proof of work. As of recently, some of that is just burned.

In our view this is incredibly inefficient both for creators and value holders. So, Solana represents a very reliable and appealing alternative for all of us.

We acknowledge there are other great L2 options for launch like Polygon but it’s just as interesting to us to show some love and add to the Solana NFT community with the hope of making a mark and notably contributing and lifting the entire NFT community there.

This is something we’ve had some careful thought about. In regards to the collection itself, it’s important that there be enough Dicktos to represent all of the fun and creative ideas we’re bringing to life. The collection is designed around a fixed supply of 6,900 for obvious and hilarious reasons, and this is a HARD CAP. Based on the fixed supply, we’ve tailored the collection so that each Dickto minted will be beautiful, interesting, and unique. We’ve taken special care to make sure that we will not mint low quality, uninteresting Dicktos, while also making sure that there are enough that have rare attributes, with nods to meme/pop culture, and the crypto giants that precede us. There are also plenty of easter eggs that we hope you’ll like.

Fundamentally, everyone will have their own subjective opinion on which Dicktos they like, if they like them at all, and our goal is to make sure each one is appealing and just fun to have and own.

Just like the supply numbers it should be obvious that the numerical choice wasn’t an accident. We’re minting at a fixed cost of 0.50 SOL per original Dickto. We’re huge fans of numerology humor. There are a few things to note here:

• As mentioned above, minting on the Solana ecosystem at the moment represents a much more efficient way to transact, so most of the cost of minting will go into the transaction itself instead of being drawn away into the Ether (not a jab). Some people have gone through the understandable mental exercise of looking at the current exchange rate of Solana to fiat and forming opinions about price, and that’s fair. But anyone who’s been involved in cryptocurrency for a while knows two things: the exchange rate can and does change (as it has dramatically since this project was originally conceived and priced months ago), and the exchange rate just doesn’t matter. The mentality of constant concern over the exchange rate between crypto and fiat completely defeats the purpose of building on a platform that is subverting traditional value exchanges and improving on them dramatically. The project is denominated in Solana, it will be exchanged and transacted in Solana, and it will continue to exist indefinitely, in permanence, far beyond the specific moment of launch.

• As with other visual arts, you are completely free and encouraged to enjoy the entire collection at no cost to you. Everyone can see it, and we sincerely hope it continues to elicit positive and sometimes controversial reactions. If you want to digitally mint and maintain digital ownership over a specific piece, we are beyond grateful to have you participate.

• We’ve structured the cost in such a way that it would be logistically difficult for people to hoard Dickto, while also making sure that it remains accessible to those who are collecting digital art. The cost logistically shouldn’t be absolute 0, not only because there are non-zero production and marketing costs, but because there needs to be a slight amount of minting friction against the blockchain to guard against misuse in a decentralized manner.

Beyond that we will be transparent in making public our donations to the stated charity organizations, posting proof via our official social accounts. It goes without saying that some portion of the minting proceeds will go towards the very non-zero cost of creating the collection, posting it on the Web3 platform in permanence, promoting the collection pre- and post- launch. Whatever remains will go in the creator fund, which will be held in Solana until it’s reinvested into the Dickto community. As of now the current launch costs are being covered entirely by the creators, which hopefully speaks to our own commitment to the project.

Our goal with the project is to remain as authentic as possible, and this means making sure that we get exposure with the right people while steering away from promotional mediums that we think are a net negative to the NFT space. In this spirit we are making our best effort to be very judicious in how we market the project on social platforms and through very occasional paid campaigns with trusted sources.

We just want to get in front of people who will appreciate the project and want to participate.

We are grateful for the broad interest in promoting and sharing details about the project but please do not be put off if we decide it’s not the right time to partner. It’s done in service of making the project as successful as we think it deserves to be.

We have elected to donate a total of 20% of proceeds from the creator’s fund towards charities that are meaningful to the co-founders. We hope that these organizations hold significance to our collectors as well.

• A 10% donation will go to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). RAINN works to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. Sexual assault is massively underreported, and even when victims come forward, convictions are rare. While we think cartoon drawings of dicks are hilarious, we are serious about giving supporting those victims and working towards ending sexual violence.

• A 10% donation will be made to the Movember Foundation in support of men’s physical and mental health. Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.

While we are in contact with both organizations, we will respect their comfort level with regards to partnership and promotion. Proof of donation will be posted on official social accounts following each subsequent minting batch.

If you truly enjoy the concept, the art, and the collection, we’d be grateful to have you share the demo and promotional art on Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, or Discord. However, we’d appreciate that you avoid promoting the project in a way that appeals to audiences with a short-term view on NFT art and cryptocurrency. Despite the fact that the project is fundamentally silly and funny, this is not something we think needs to be mercilessly marketed in short sighted ways or through the lens of flipping. Yes, we believe in value creation but we also believe in patience, equity, and appreciation for the art ecosystem.
